What it means to choose Adventure 60 North
A letter from the owner
To our visitors deciding on a guiding company for their Alaskan adventures;
Let’s face it – there are several kayaking and hiking companies in town and we all say we are different because of the skill and training of the guides. The truth is that pretty much all of us have similarly trained and experienced guides. The industry standard for guides in Seward is an ACA Level 2 or higher designation and a WFR (Wilderness First Responder). All of our guides meet or exceed those standards. In addition, most have degrees in outdoor education, several with dual degrees, and outdoor adventure instructors. They are all Outdoor Professionals that share a zest for life and yearn to share their knowledge and enthusiasm with our clients.
What does make us different: is we are the only outdoor adventure company that is open year-round. We paddle in these waters 12 months of the year. Our doors are open 7 day a week, except for about 10 days of the year. When we can’t get folks out due the conditions we operate as a winter visitor center and keep our pulse on activities that can be done on your own. Rick, and lead sea kayaking guide Sunrisa are invested in Seward year round. You can find them actively participating in Chamber Marketing meetings, local causes, Skip and Marie Fletcher Winter Movie Series, The Alaska Sea life Center and many other volunteering duties throughout the “off season”.
Despite what all we offer you might think that we are huge. We are not. We started at humble beginnings and continue to be the smallest guiding company in town and want to keep it that way. We do not hire droves of guides as we want our clients to experience our trips as intimately as we do. We keep our guide roster to 8 or 9 guides a season so that Rick can keep management hands-on and ensure that clients are receiving the experience that we envision. All of our adventures are no more than 6 persons per guide not only for safety’s sake, but to maintain the quality of experience as well.
In summary the Seward guiding community is a close-knit group. We all work hard every day and get together for fellowship whenever we can. Rick feels that Seward can only grow and prosper when all businesses work as a team. We will happily refer you to one of our friends if we don’t have availability or if it isn’t a service we provide.
Thank you for taking time to read what makes Adventure Sixty North special! We hope to see you on one of our adventures in here in beautiful Seward, Alaska.
Sincerely,
Rick Brown Owner/Guide

Rick has been kayaking for more years than he wants to count here in Alaska and around this planet. Guiding in the Kenai Fjords National Park since early 90’s, Rick has been involved in the kayaking guiding community continuously ever since and even to today. He has served as a Alaska EMT ll and has volunteered as a medic with the Seward Volunteer Ambulance Corps after retiring as a professional fire fighter of 27yrs. Rick loves using all of his boats, white water kayaks, canoes, white water raft, and sea kayaks.
He takes extreme pride in the reputation and our commitment to quality that our little kayak shop has built in the community. Working with those with special needs in our community each year and providing outdoor adventures for those that just need a chance to shine is one of his passions.

Working behind the scenes and guiding as well, you will see Rick everywhere in Seward or out on the water, doing what he loves! Providing great trips and experiences to all of our adventurous visitors!
