Most of our trips are for first-timers, unless otherwise noted. Every trip will begin with some paddling instructions and basic kayak safety demonstration. You do not have to be able to run a marathon, Sea Kayaking relies more on technique than strength. For some of our tours, we do suggest to be in good athletic conditions and/or have some previous paddling experience. We have many varieties of adventures, some more suited for the active explorers while others are for families.

Adventure Sixty North offers a regular gear rental service and a guided rental service. With the regular kayak rental service, all safety gear and paddle is included, and we can answer any questions about the environment and location to ensure a great solo trip.
For the guided rental service, we will provide you with one of our self-sufficient guides to show you around the area of your choice. The guide comes with all the necessary kayak and safety gear; you provide the food and camping gear for yourself. Our guided rental service is only offered to experienced outdoor adventurers that are wilderness savvy. Give us a call if you think this option suits you, and we can give you more information. -
Dress in layers so that you can regulate your temperature. NO cotton or jeans. Rain gear, active wear made of synthetic & water-wicking materials and wool are the best types of clothing for kayaking since they retain their warmth when wet and also breath. Wear water-resistant/water proof shoes, warm socks and a fleece jacket. Adventure Sixty North will provide rubber boots, rain jackets and rain pants if you do not have your own.
-
Bring rain gear (if you have your own), hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, dry socks, gloves, your camera and anything else you might deem necessary. Binoculars are nice if you are joining us on an Aialik Glacier or Northwestern Glacier Trip. Having a reusable water bottle is always a good thing to bring to keep us from using plastic. We will provide you with a dry bag for your personal items. And bring a great attitude for adventure!
-
Good base layers will go a long way. If you have your own rain gear, please feel free to wear, otherwise we will provide all the necessary kayaking gear you need (rain pants, rain jackets and rubber boots). We will also provide neoprene gloves for kayaking called “pogies”.
As for the overnight trips, we provide durable MSR tents along with all the necessary camping gear including sleeping bags and self-inflating air mats. If you prefer, you can use your own bags and sleeping pads as long as they are adequate for Alaska’s elements.
-
Drysuits may be provided for multi-day trips only if conditions determine they are needed. We do not provide drysuits for day trips.
-
We will provide food on most of our tours. While some tours include lunch, others will include a snack in the very least. See the individual trip description for more details. Please let us know if there is anything you cannot eat, and we will adjust our menu to fit any reasonable meals. However, if your metabolism is in full gear, you might want to bring along some additional snacks.

Generally, kayaks are safe and don’t just tip over for no reason. All of our guided trips go out in tandem kayaks (doubles) which are more stable than singles. While it is possible to tip over, most capsizes are due to a negligent behavior on the kayaker’s part, it is very rare in our company’s history. We thoroughly explain how to use our gear for your safety and you will be outfitted with all the necessary gear, including life jackets. Our guides are trained ACA Level 2 rescue standard every season and practice rescue techniques often throughout the season. We are always tracking the weather to ensure a safe and fun trip.
-
Our tours run rain or shine. Seward, Alaska sits on the northern most edge of a temperate rainforest, averaging 90″ of precipitation a year, so you can expect your visit to have a combination of sunny and rainy days. Rain alone likely won’t cause a tour to be cancelled, so please be prepared, wear synthetic layers of clothing and avoid wearing cotton/jeans. Whether hiking, kayaking, fishing or gold panning, we strongly advise you to bring a waterproof rain jacket and rain pants. For kayaking trips only, if you do not have your own rain gear, we will provide it.
Please wear comfortable waterproof footwear. Running shoes, hiking boots, and closed-toe water shoes are all great options.
On our typical cloudy, rainy or overcast days, the water tends to stay quiet and calm throughout the day. This is one of the reasons why we love paddling in the rain!
We only cancel trips due to high winds.

We use Looksha T Necky, Looksha T Oldtown Tandem Sea Kayaks for our guided trips and for rentals.
-
Our tandem Sea Kayaks can fit a kayaker with a maximum waist diameter of 44 inch (kayak cockpit size is 17.3 wide x 35.5 inch long). Hight is typically not an issue for our trips.
For our helicopter kayaking tours the maximum weigh limit is 300lbs per person. For any two passengers in the same party traveling together on the same flight, the combined weight cannot exceed 420lbs.
Our Exit Glacier hike is rated easy for mobile and active hikers, so we recommend that participants have good mobility if doing the entire Glacier View and Overlook Loop hike.
-
We can accommodate many types of needs. For our kayaking trips, in order to be able to take you out on the water, we need to be sure you can understand and perform the proper techniques of a wet exit (this involves removing your spray skirt from the kayak and surfacing in the event of a capsize), and also have the strength to help lift yourself into the kayak.
For our hiking tour, we recommend that participants have good mobility if doing the entire Glacier View and Overlook Loop hike. However, there is a section that is accessible for those with limited mobility at the beginning of the trail that is wheel chair accessible.
Our main priorities are safety and fun. If you have an injury or a need that requires consideration, and feel you can’t meet our priorities, please let us know ahead of time and we can work with you.
Notice is required to accommodate special needs!
-
For our kayaking tours we offer a variety of options for ages 6+ and no experience is necessary. Children 6 – 12 and at least 50lbs to fit into required life jackets, must be paddling with an adult. Children 13 – 17 must have a signed parental consent form. Some trips due have age restrictions, so please reach out to our team so they can find the right trip for your family.
-
Guiding is considered part of the serving industry; thus, tipping is practiced. Tips are voluntary but greatly appreciated. You may tip your guide, helicopter pilot or your water taxi captain at your discretion. They are generally 15%-20% based on your guide’s performance.

For the glacier tours we use our partners that make it possible. For our Bear Glacier trips, we use Seward Helicopter Tours. We fly you out on a 15-min helicopter ride to Bear Glacier Lagoon on a Robinson 44 helicopter, which is a 4-person helicopter, so everyone gets a window seat.
For our Aialik Glacier trip, we take you out on a 2-hr boat ride to Aialik Bay on one of Weather Permitting water taxis which offers a great opportunity for spotting wildlife such as whales, orcas, seals, sea lions, sea otters, puffins, etc., depending on the season.
For our Exit Glacier Tour, we shuttle you out on a 15-min drive to the Kenai Fjord National Park Nature Center and go on a 2-hr round trip hike to the glacier overlook.
